The U.S. and Japan confirmed joint currency intervention after the yen hit 40-year lows against the dollar. The yen climbed on August 3, 2026. Earlier solo Japanese action had set a floor near 160 per dollar without lasting effect. The Treasury signaled to banks it might trade, but officials haven't committed to a sustained campaign.
