U.S. and Japan Team Up to Prop Up the Yen

The U.S. and Japan jointly bought yen to stop its fall to 40-year lows against the dollar. The yen rose on August 3, 2026. Japan had acted alone before, briefly steadying the currency near 160 yen per dollar. The Treasury told banks it might step in again, but no long-term plan is confirmed.
