One Man's Fake Brake-Failure Claim Cost Jaguar Land Rover £50 Million
A UK driver's fabricated brake-failure story cost Jaguar Land Rover £50 million in defensive marketing. Nathan Owen, owing £5,000 in car finance, faked the failure on his electric Jaguar I-Pace in March 2024, ramming a police car 31 times during a 38-mile pursuit. Jaguar told Liverpool Crown Court the claim generated 180 pieces of adverse media coverage about its electric vehicles. Owen was jailed for four years and three months.
