NDP's Lewis skips by-elections to prepare party for next general vote
NDP Leader Avi Lewis will not seek a Commons seat in upcoming by-elections, opting instead to prepare the party across all 343 ridings within the next year. Lewis, leader for four months, plans to run before or during the next general election. The NDP holds five seats, seven short of recognized party status — the threshold for formal House of Commons privileges.
