Tens of Thousands Surge Into Spanish Enclave of Ceuta, Dozens Dead

Roughly 49,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into Ceuta — a Spanish territory on the North African coast — in hours on 31 July 2026, expanding the city of 85,000 by over half. At least 18 died, many drowning, others crushed at a beach fence. A police association called it a humanitarian crisis. Both governments blamed criminal networks.
