Avalanche on Broad Peak Leaves Ten Climbers Missing, Including Nirmal Purja

An avalanche struck Broad Peak (8,047 m) in Pakistan's Karakoram range around midday, leaving ten climbers missing. The team was led by Nirmal Purda, the Nepal-born mountaineer famed for climbing all 14 eight-thousanders in six months. The Alpine Club of Pakistan confirmed the incident. At least one American, a Texas woman, is among the missing. Rescue details remain unclear.
