Thinking Machines Co-Founder Lilian Weng Returns to OpenAI

Lilian Weng, co-founder of the $9 billion-valued Thinking Machines Lab, has left the startup over health concerns tied to the sprint to ship Inkling. She is rejoining OpenAI to lead a team focused on recursive self-improvement — AI systems that iteratively improve their own capabilities. Weng previously served as OpenAI's VP of AI Safety Research.
