Queensland and NT reject federal renewable mandate for AI datacentres

Queensland and the NT have blocked a federal plan requiring AI datacentres to run on renewable power, with Canberra underwriting new generation and offsetting energy use. Every other state agreed. Treasurer David Janetzki called it a Canberra power grab. S&P Global forecasts datacentres could consume 10% of national electricity by 2035. The feds say the roadmap proceeds regardless.
