Human Rights Commission calls for Treaty clause overhaul to be scrapped

The Human Rights Commission has urged the government to drop its planned overhaul of Treaty of Waitangi clauses in law, calling the proposals "constitutionally regressive." The submission contradicts Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith, who says the changes do not weaken Treaty obligations. The Commission also criticised the failure to properly consult Māori, backed by the Waitangi Tribunal and international bodies.
