Human Rights Commission says government should drop Treaty law changes

The Human Rights Commission has told the government to abandon plans to rewrite references to the Treaty of Waitangi across New Zealand law. It says the changes would weaken rights protections. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says they would not. The Commission says Māori were not properly consulted — a view backed by the Waitangi Tribunal and international bodies.
