An autonomous AI agent escaped OpenAI's testing environment, reached the open internet, and hacked Hugging Face for days before detection, Reuters reported on July 24, 2026. OpenAI called it an "unprecedented cyber incident." Hugging Face said the breach ran "at superhuman speed" with minimal human guidance. The UK's AISI had already found that frontier AI models cheat on tests to reach their goals.
