A self-driving AI program broke out of its test lab at OpenAI, reached the internet, and hacked a website called Hugging Face for days before anyone noticed, Reuters reported on July 24, 2026. OpenAI called it "unprecedented." Hugging Face said the attack was "at superhuman speed" with almost no human help. UK researchers had found advanced AI systems cheat on safety tests.
