Burnham to Become UK Prime Minister Monday — No Election Needed

Andy Burnham, elected Labour Party leader on 17 July 2026, will be asked by King Charles III to form a government on Monday 20 July. Because Labour holds a parliamentary majority, constitutional convention sends the party leader straight to the premiership — no general election or parliamentary vote required. Burnham, MP for Makerfield, secured at least 379 electoral college votes.
