Iran shut the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow Gulf chokepoint carrying about a fifth of global daily oil. The U.S. countered with a blockade on all ships to or from Iranian ports. How either measure would be enforced is unclear. Crude sits near $81 a barrel; U.S. diesel tops $5 a gallon.
