Gary Kemp calls for public support for theatre at first Great British Theatres Awards

"Draining the arts is no way to create a community," Gary Kemp told the first Great British Theatres Awards at Central Hall Westminster on 2 November 2026. Theatres Trust launched the awards for its 50th anniversary, honouring buildings, organisations and individuals rather than productions. Kemp's remark was a call for support, not tied to a funding decision.
