
Eleven Killed in Fire at Children's Care Facility Near Algiers
Eleven people died and nineteen were injured when fire swept a foster home for underprivileged children in Mohammadia, an Algiers suburb, on July 16, 2026. Firefighters arrived at 03:30 local time and fought the blaze for over three hours. No cause has been disclosed. Algeria is also battling roughly 1,000 wildfires amid a heatwave.
