Fire at Children's Home Near Algiers Kills Eleven

Eleven people died and nineteen were hurt in a fire at a home that cares for disadvantaged children in Mohammadia, a suburb of Algiers, on July 16, 2026. Firefighters arrived at 3:30 a.m. and fought the flames for more than three hours. The cause is unknown. Algeria is also fighting about 1,000 wildfires during a heatwave.
