
UK economy edges back to 0.1% growth as Burnham prepares to take office
The ONS said UK GDP grew 0.1% in May 2026, barely offsetting April's 0.1% contraction. NIESR's Fergus Jimenez-England called growth "fragile." Capital Economics' Paul Dales said it was "not a bad welcome gift" for incoming PM Andy Burnham. The ONS said renewed US-Iran conflict hit manufacturing, hospitality, travel and entertainment.
