UK economy returns to 0.1% growth as Burnham prepares to take over

The ONS reported UK GDP grew 0.1% in May 2026, barely reversing April's 0.1% contraction. NIESR's Fergus Jimenez-England said growth remains "fragile." Capital Economics' Paul Dales called it "not a bad welcome gift for incoming PM Andy Burnham." The ONS said resumed US-Iran hostilities hit manufacturing, hospitality, travel and entertainment.
