Eastern brown snake snagged in bike chain bites cyclist on NSW rail trail

A two-metre eastern brown snake became caught in a woman's bike chain on the Northern Rivers Rail Trail near Burringbar, NSW, on July 15. With its head free, the snake bit the cyclist's thigh. Snake catcher Sarah Mailey confirmed a "dry bite" — meaning no venom entered the bloodstream. The woman, in her 60s, was discharged from Tweed Valley Hospital the next morning. The snake was euthanised due to injuries from the entanglement.
