Snake caught in bike chain bites cyclist in NSW

A two-metre eastern brown snake — one of Australia's most venomous — became tangled in a woman's bike chain on a trail near Burringbar, NSW, on July 15. With its head free, the snake bit the cyclist's thigh. Snake catcher Sarah Mailey confirmed a "dry bite," meaning the snake struck but released no venom. The woman, in her 60s, left Tweed Valley Hospital the next morning. The snake was put down due to its injuries.
