
Uber and Waymo Clash Over D.C. Driverless Car Rules
Uber opposes D.C. legislation (B26-0684) permitting robotaxi testing and commercial service, arguing it displaces drivers and favors Waymo. Waymo backs the bill, which imposes a $0.15-per-mile tax for driver retraining. At a July 14 hearing, Uber will push a "hybrid model" requiring robotaxis operate alongside human drivers—an industry-wide mandate rather than optional.
