Iraqi Prime Minister Visits Damascus, First Such Trip Since Assad's Fall

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi met Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa in Damascus on October 28, 2026. It is the first visit to Syria by an Iraqi prime minister since Bashar al-Assad's fall. The leaders discussed Iraqi oil exports through Syria, trade, and agriculture. They had previously met in New York in September.
