Burnham Poised for Unopposed Labour Leadership Victory

Alistair Carns ruled out a Labour leadership bid on 8 July, leaving Andy Burnham as the sole declared candidate when nominations open Thursday. Wes Streeting had also considered standing before backing Burnham. An unopposed race would compress the normally months-long process into weeks, with Burnham potentially prime minister by 20 July.
