Ottawa tables bill to bar MAID where mental illness is the only condition

The Liberal government tabled a bill in the House of Commons on Tuesday that would amend the Criminal Code, Canada's main criminal law, to bar medical assistance in dying (MAID) where mental illness is the sole condition. The bill would need to pass the House and Senate before a federal pause on that eligibility expires March 17, 2027.
