Solar subsidies leave $19,000 gap, Timaru installer says
A Timaru solar installer told RNZ that typical home systems cost $22,000–$27,000. Labour's $3,000 kickstart grant and National's rates-backed loans both fall well short. A standard five-kilowatt system needs 15–16 panels, an inverter, wiring and switchboard work. Labour's $160 million SolarSaver package and National's Home Energy Fund each fail to bridge the funding shortfall.
