Solar power for homes costs far more than either party's support covers

A solar installer in Timaru says putting panels on a house costs $22,000–$27,000. Labour's plan offers $3,000; National's offers rates-backed loans. Neither comes close to the real cost. A typical system needs 15–16 panels, plus equipment to convert and distribute the power. Both policies leave homeowners tens of thousands short.
