France Deploys About 70,000 Police Nationwide for Saturday Protests

France is deploying about 70,000 police nationwide on Saturday 24 October to prevent further civil unrest. Violence broke out on the fringes of 17 October cost-of-living protests. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said the forces would include elite counter-terrorism units, water cannon, armoured vehicles, helicopters and drones. The number is about 10,000 more than deployed on 17 October.
