Man charged after sledgehammer attack on Iwo Jima monument near Quantico

Police charged Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano, 27, of Stafford, Virginia, after they say he used a sledgehammer on the Iwo Jima flag-raising monument near Marine Corps Base Quantico. Police estimate the damage at hundreds of thousands of dollars. He faces two felonies and a misdemeanour and is held without bond. The charges are allegations, and he has not been tried.
