Macron Says France Will Ban "Illegitimate" Protests and Convene Defence Council

Macron said France would ban all "illegitimate" protests in the coming days and would convene the defence council (senior ministers and security officials) on Friday. The announcement follows Saturday's nationwide protests, which drew more than half a million people. Riots broke out and at least 2,500 people were arrested. Approved union demonstrations would move to routes outside city centres.
