Proposed rules would let judges cut prison privileges for offenders who skip sentencing
Offenders in England and Wales who refuse to attend their sentencing could lose prison privileges for 84 days or be confined to their cells for 21 days, under proposed rules laid before parliament. The rules are due to take effect next year. Refusal already carries a fine or up to two years in jail for contempt of court.
