Nearly 2,400 arrested in France during rioting and looting

Nearly 2,400 people were arrested in France on Saturday, 17 October, amid nationwide rioting and looting that AFP described as some of the worst urban violence in the country this October. President Emmanuel Macron denounced the violence as "unbridled" and promised more security, but did not announce a state of emergency or curfew. Protests are planned for Saturday, 24 October.
