Florida Executes William Reaves; Defense Says Jurors Were Not Told of VA Disability Rating

Florida executed William Reaves, 77, on October 20, 2026, for a 1986 deputy's killing. Defense attorneys say the Department of Veterans Affairs rated Reaves, a Vietnam veteran, 100% disabled from service-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but jurors who recommended his death sentence were never told. More than 100 veterans had urged Governor Ron DeSantis to halt the execution.
