Golden Globes deny Michael a musical or comedy slot, moving the biopic to drama for 2027

The Golden Globes committee has denied Lionsgate's request to enter the Michael Jackson biopic as a musical or comedy. Its musical performances, the committee ruled, did not sufficiently drive the narrative. Michael will compete in best motion picture drama at the 2027 ceremony. Lionsgate may appeal before the 31 October deadline; sources told Billboard an appeal is unlikely.
