Mauritius lifts nighttime curfew after violent protests
Mauritius ended its nighttime curfew on October 19, 2026, with the final order expiring at 4:30 a.m. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s office said it would not be extended. The evening and overnight restrictions had covered most of the main island from October 12 to 18 during protests over water shortages and the rising cost of living. Schools reopened.
