Downing Street says Hegseth wrong to downplay NATO allies' Afghanistan role
Downing Street said US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth was wrong to downplay NATO allies' combat role in Afghanistan. Hegseth had claimed that "maybe five countries contributed in Afghanistan" and "closer to one or two were involved in kinetic operations by the end," meaning fighting. Personnel from more than 30 nations died there, including 457 Britons.
