Rioting erupts across French cities over living costs

Rioting erupted in cities across France on Saturday, Oct. 17, as protests over rising living costs and declining public services escalated. It followed student demonstrations in more than 40 cities in October, with clashes in Paris, Rennes, Lyon and Strasbourg. Reuters reported the unrest added to a sense of crisis and shook bond markets, where the government borrows money.
