US budget gap hit $1.992 trillion in 2026

$1.992 trillion deficit — spending minus tax revenue — in fiscal 2026 on $7.396 trillion spending, Yahoo Finance reported. Reuters said the gap rose $217 billion from last year, largest in five years. That is roughly $1 borrowed for every $4 spent, paid later through taxes, higher rates, or inflation.
