Alberta votes on whether to start process toward separation referendum
Alberta voters cast ballots Oct. 19 in a nonbinding vote on whether the province should start the legal steps toward a binding referendum on leaving Canada. The vote is not a direct decision to separate. Polls suggest most Albertans favor staying in Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney has urged a decisive vote against separation.
