Google Folds Android Backups Into Storage Quota
From July 7, Google will count Android backup data—app settings, call logs, SMS—against your 15GB free storage tier, a shift previously reserved for MMS photos and video. The company estimates 40MB per user, but power users with extensive messaging or app data will face overages. New granular controls allow selective backup exclusion. Existing users transition gradually; new users see the change immediately.
