Study finds warm seawater melting Thwaites Glacier, risking 1.2-inch sea rise

University of California researchers with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory reported Oct. 15 that warm seawater is pushing under Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica and melting it from below. Published in Nature Communications, the study predicts Thwaites alone could add 1.2 inches to sea levels even if global warming does not speed up.
