43 Killed Over July Fourth Weekend; US Passes 227 Mass Shootings This Year

At least 43 people died in shootings across the US from July 4–6 as the nation observed its 250th independence anniversary. The Gun Violence Archive tallied 227 mass shootings year-to-date—defined as incidents with four or more people shot, excluding the shooter. Incidents occurred at block parties, nightclub parking lots, and a Mississippi venue that wounded nine. Through early July, gunfire has killed 6,612 and injured 12,219 nationwide.
