At least 43 people were killed in shootings across the US over the July Fourth holiday weekend as the nation turned 250. Researchers counted 227 mass shootings so far this year—that means incidents where four or more people were shot. Violence struck block parties, parking lots, and a venue in Mississippi. So far this year, guns have killed 6,612 people and wounded 12,219.
