Norton Simon Museum countersues to block renewed Cranach claim

The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California, has countersued to block a renewed claim for Nazi-era Cranach paintings, ARTnews reported on 16 October 2026. It seeks a ruling it holds clear title. The claim was brought by the Jewish Federation as assignee of heir von Saher under California's 2024 Holocaust art-recovery law, Courthouse News reported.
