China fires second Pacific missile test in 22 months

China tested a ballistic missile in the South Pacific on 6 July, hours after notifying New Zealand. Foreign Minister Winston Peters called it unwelcome and said it breaches the Treaty of Rarotonga, which bans nuclear weapons testing in the region. This is the second Chinese missile launch there since September 2024.
