China tests missile in Pacific, breaking regional nuclear ban

China fired a missile into the South Pacific on 6 July, just hours after telling New Zealand it would happen. Foreign Minister Winston Peters said it violates a 1985 agreement that keeps nuclear weapons tests out of the region. China has now launched two missiles into the Pacific in less than two years.
