Severe drought declared in six areas of England, threatening water supplies

Severe drought was declared on 15 October 2026 in parts of Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, East Sussex and West Sussex. Public water supplies are under threat. South East, South West and Southern Water want bans on non-essential business use, and the government and Environment Agency will monitor reservoirs and rivers daily.
