Amazon Closes Mechanical Turk to New Customers, Enters Maintenance Mode

Amazon will stop accepting new customers for Mechanical Turk on July 30, 2026. Existing users can continue, but AWS commits only to security and availability upkeep—no new features. The service, which coordinated human annotation tasks for research and ML training since 2005, is declining as AI automation displaces the work it was built to manage.
