National pledges seven trade deals in five years

National's trade spokesperson Todd McClay announced a National government would pursue free trade agreements with Brazil, Switzerland, Argentina, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Uruguay, and the European Free Trade Association within five years. The target spans four continents and established economies alongside emerging markets. Trade deals typically take years to negotiate; the timeline would require multiple simultaneous talks and more staff at the Foreign Ministry.
