Abbas sets 2027 vote, missing 2026 date tied to Canada's recognition

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas set votes for president and parliament for Sept. 11, 2027. That misses the 2026 general election the Palestinian Authority promised Canada and other countries in exchange for recognising Palestine. Prime Minister Mark Carney tied recognition to a 2026 vote. None has been held since 2005-06.
